Okanagan Lake is the spine of the valley, 135 kilometres of deep blue ringed by dry mountains, with a warm luminous light off the water and the pale hills that is particular to the Okanagan.
The orchards and the heights
Beyond the vines, the Okanagan is orchard country, and in spring the apple, cherry, and peach blossoms cover the valley in white and pink, a softer, brief, spectacular version of the wine-country setting.
The dry mountains ringing the valley, Knox Mountain above the city and the Myra Canyon trestles to the south, give the big-picture view over the lake and vines.
