The Best Season for a Los Cabos Elopement

Over 300 sunny days a year, the winter whale season, the summer heat, and the early-fall hurricane window. Here is what each season delivers and the ideal windows.

Los Cabos enjoys some of the most reliable weather of any Mexican destination, with over 300 sunny days a year and a desert climate that keeps the humidity low. But the seasons still matter for an elopement, particularly the heat of late summer, the whale season of winter, and the small risk of hurricanes in early fall. Here is what each delivers.

Winter and Spring: The Prime Season

From November through May, Los Cabos is close to perfect: warm, dry, sunny days, comfortable evenings, low humidity, and calm seas. This is the prime elopement window, coinciding with the North American winter and drawing couples escaping the cold. It is also whale season, when grey and humpback whales fill the waters off Baja, a spectacular backdrop and a possible addition to a boat-based portrait session. This is peak season, so it is the busiest and priciest.

Summer: Hot and Quiet

Summer, June through September, brings real heat to the Baja desert, with temperatures often above 35 degrees and higher humidity than the rest of the year. The trade-off is fewer crowds, lower prices, and warm seas. For couples comfortable with the heat and willing to plan around the cooler morning and evening hours, summer offers Los Cabos at its most affordable, though the midday sun is genuinely intense.

The Hurricane Consideration

Los Cabos sits at the edge of the Pacific hurricane belt, and the late summer and early fall, particularly September and into October, carry a small but real risk of tropical storms. Serious hurricanes are uncommon but not unheard of, so couples planning a late-summer or early-fall elopement should be aware of the season and consider travel insurance and a flexible plan. The risk is one reason the dry winter months are so popular.

The Best Window

For most couples, the ideal windows are the shoulder edges of the prime season, late October into November, or April into May, when the weather is excellent, the whale season is beginning or ending, the hurricane risk has passed, and the peak-season crowds and prices have eased. These windows offer the best balance of perfect weather, value, and the spectacular Baja experience.
