Todos Santos enjoys the reliable, sunny desert climate of southern Baja, with low humidity and abundant sunshine, but the seasons still shift the heat, the whale migration, and the small hurricane risk in ways that matter for an elopement. The cooler months bring prime conditions and the whales; the summer brings heat; and the early autumn carries the Pacific storm window. Here is what each delivers.
The Prime Season: November to May
From November through May, Todos Santos is close to perfect for an elopement: warm, dry, sunny days, comfortable evenings, low humidity, and the dramatic Pacific light at its best. This is the prime window, coinciding with the North American winter and drawing couples escaping the cold. The dry desert air and the long golden sunsets over the Pacific make these months reliably spectacular, and it is the most popular season in the art town.
The Whale Season
One of Baja’s great natural wonders coincides with the prime elopement season: from roughly December to April, grey and humpback whales migrate to the warm Pacific waters off the peninsula to breed and calve. While the famous whale lagoons are further north, the whales pass the Todos Santos coast, and a winter elopement can be paired with a whale-watching experience, a spectacular and uniquely Baja addition to the celebration.
Summer Heat and the Hurricane Window
Summer, June through September, brings real heat to the Baja desert and higher humidity than the rest of the year, with the trade-off of fewer crowds and lower prices. Importantly, southern Baja sits at the edge of the Pacific hurricane belt, and the late summer and early autumn, particularly September into October, carry a small but real risk of tropical storms. Couples planning a late-summer or early-fall elopement should be aware of the season and keep a flexible plan.
The Best Window
For most couples, the ideal windows are the heart and shoulders of the prime season, late October into November, or March into May, when the weather is excellent, the whale season is beginning or ending, the hurricane risk has passed, and the peak-season crowds have eased. These windows offer the best balance of perfect desert-and-Pacific weather, the chance of whales, and the relaxed character of the art town.
