Whistler is one of the most complete places in Canada to elope. In a single valley you get a true alpine summit ten minutes up by gondola, a glacier a short helicopter flight away, turquoise lakes and old cedar forest a walk from the village, and thermal baths steaming in the snow to close a winter day. Here is exactly how to do it.

1. The legal part is simpler than you think

The licence comes from any BC Registry Agent or online through Service BC, costs about C$100, and is valid for 90 days. There is no waiting period between getting the licence and the ceremony, so you can pick it up the week of. Your officiant files all the registration paperwork afterward. That is the entire legal process. No residency requirement, no blood test, nothing exotic.
2. Choose the kind of day, not just the spot
Whistler gives you more range than almost anywhere. The essential version is a summit ceremony on the Peak 2 Peak or a portrait route through Lost Lake and the cedar valley. The adventure version adds a helicopter to a glacier, a private 4x4 up the mountain, or the Scandinave thermal baths. I always start with the feeling you want and work backward to the location, never the other way around.
3. Pick the season on purpose
June through October is the alpine window: wildflower meadows in July, the first larch gold and cold clear light in late September, and gondola and helicopter access at their most reliable. Winter is its own thing entirely, snowcat runs, the thermals in falling snow, and a white-on-white palette you cannot get any other season. There is no bad season here, only different days.
4. Build a weather backup, always
Mountains are never promised blindly. Gondola and helicopter days can be closed by weather or lift operations, so every plan I build carries a full-value valley backup: if the alpine is out, the day moves to Lost Lake, the cedar forest, or a forest ceremony with no loss of coverage or experience, and often more atmosphere. 5. What it costs
My Whistler elopements come as two tiers. The Blueprint is C$6,500: the day designed and planned, the officiant and permits booked, florals and styling arranged, one accessible mountain activity and a celebratory dinner, and four to five hours of photography delivered as a curated gallery. The Signature is C$8,500 and adds a cinematic film, a premium experience like a helicopter flight or a private 4x4 tour, the Scandinave thermals, and a full eight-hour day. Both are local-package prices; you book your own flights and hotel, and I point you to the right ones.
6. Give it the right lead time
For a summer or September alpine date, two to three months is the right window; peak weekends fill early. A flexible weekday or a shoulder-season date needs less. Book the date, the location, and the photographer first, then the officiant six weeks out, then the licence in the final month.
