Why elope in Colombia

“The best light I have found anywhere in the world. I live here. I know.”

I am based in Medellín. I chose it specifically. And the reason I chose it, beyond everything else, is the light. Colombia sits at equatorial latitude with Andean altitude, which creates a quality of late-afternoon illumination that I have not found replicated anywhere else I have worked. The country also has extraordinary visual diversity: Cartagena's Caribbean colonial grandeur, Medellín's modern mountain city, Bogotá's grittier highland energy. The flower industry means florals here are extraordinary and affordable. The food is exceptional. The dollar stretches significantly further than in equivalent European destinations. Colombia is where I send couples who want something genuinely extraordinary and have not found it in the usual destinations.

The light

Colombia's combination of equatorial sun and Andean altitude creates a golden hour that arrives reliably, burns intensely warm, and then fades through a blue hour that is some of the most beautiful ambient light I have worked in. The surrounding mountain landscapes in every major Colombian city add a backdrop that requires no additional context to look spectacular.
