Vancouver is where I grew up with a camera in my hand, and it is still one of the most photogenic cities in the world for weddings. The mountains behind you, the Pacific in front, and a sky that diffuses light evenly for most of the year — it is practically built for portraiture. I know the light in Stanley Park at 5pm in October. I know which Gastown alley goes golden. I know where to stand so that the North Shore mountains sit perfectly behind two people in love. Couples get married here for the landscape, the food, and the ease. They get extraordinary photographs because of the light.

The light

Vancouver's overcast sky is a photographer's gift — soft, directional, and consistent across the whole day. When the sun does break through, particularly in late afternoon along the waterfront, the light turns the city amber in a way that is genuinely hard to replicate. The mountains are the backdrop no other city has.
