PEC elopement logistics are among the simplest of any destination I photograph. The county is two hours from Toronto by car, the roads are direct, and the locations I use are within forty minutes of each other. The main things to plan are the Sandbanks park permit, the winery access coordination, and the session timing around the afternoon light at the beach. Nothing here requires weeks of advance work the way a Colombian Pacific or Alpine elopement does.
Sandbanks Permits
Sandbanks Provincial Park requires a day use entry fee per vehicle, and commercial photography requires advance coordination with Ontario Parks. I handle the commercial photography application for every session at Sandbanks. The application requires a few weeks of lead time and a fee, and the permit is location-specific within the park. I request access to the Outlet Beach dune area and the West Lake Outlet, which are the two locations I use most consistently. Weekday sessions at Sandbanks are preferred because the weekend crowds in July and August make the dune areas difficult to work in.
Winery Access
Winery sessions in PEC require coordination directly with the winery. Most of the estates I work with regularly have a process for elopement photography access, either booked through the event coordinator or arranged through a contact I have maintained from previous sessions. The access usually includes the vineyard rows, the barrel cellar if they allow indoor photography, and the property viewpoints toward the bay or lake. I recommend booking the winery coordination at least a month before the session date because the summer and fall season estates have full event calendars and access windows fill up. Tastings and a bottle to take home are a reasonable expectation and most estates include them with the session arrangement.
