Bolivia is one of the least expensive countries in South America for accommodation, food, and internal transport. The Uyuni region is more expensive than most of Bolivia because it has a captive tourism market in a remote location, but it remains significantly more affordable than Patagonia or the Galápagos. The primary cost drivers are the 4x4 logistics for the Eduardo Avaroa circuit and the operational days required to cover both the salar and the reserve.
What the Investment Covers
A comprehensive Uyuni elopement investment covers: photography coverage for three to four days (one to two on the salar, one to two on the Eduardo Avaroa circuit); all internal transport including 4x4 hire and driver for the circuit; accommodation in Uyuni town and the circuit lodges; Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve entry fee; and full gallery delivery.
The Eduardo Avaroa entry fee for foreign visitors is currently $150 Bolivianos (approximately $20 USD). The reserve also charges a separate Laguna Colorada entry fee. These fees are modest by South American national park standards.
The La Paz Stop
Most itineraries for a Uyuni elopement include a day or two in La Paz for acclimatisation before flying or taking the train to Uyuni. La Paz itself offers a dramatic elopement backdrop (the cable cars over the Choqueyapu canyon, the Witches' Market, the Valle de la Luna outside the city) and combining a La Paz day with a Uyuni trip adds both acclimatisation value and photographic value for a modest additional cost.
