Why elope in Los Cabos
“Desert meets Pacific. El Arco at golden hour is one of the most dramatic backdrops on earth.”
Los Cabos is where the Sonoran Desert meets the Pacific Ocean at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, and that collision of landscapes produces some of the most visually distinctive wedding photographs made anywhere in Mexico. The Sea of Cortez light — warmer and more directional than the Caribbean side — wraps the desert rock formations in amber at golden hour in a way that feels genuinely cinematic. San José del Cabo's colonial centro has a quieter, more architectural character than Cabo San Lucas; the gallery district and the church plaza photograph beautifully for ceremony coverage. I fly to Los Cabos regularly and consider the Baja desert one of the most exciting portrait environments I work in.
The light
The Baja Peninsula's desert humidity is low enough that the atmosphere is clear and the light is sharp — which means colors are saturated and shadows are defined in a way that tropical humidity doesn't allow. El Arco and the beach on the Pacific side at sunset is arguably the most dramatic natural backdrop available at any wedding destination in the Americas.
