Best Wedding Venues in Banff

The Fairmont Banff Springs, Rimrock Resort, the Buffalo Mountain Lodge, and outdoor ceremony sites at Lake Louise and the Vermilion Lakes. What each option delivers.

Banff has a defined set of wedding venues, ranging from the landmark hotel properties to outdoor ceremony sites within the national park. Here is an honest assessment of the main options.

Fairmont Banff Springs

The Fairmont Banff Springs is the most recognizable venue in the Canadian Rockies. The hotel's castle architecture, the mountain views from the Rundle Lounge and the outdoor terraces, and the internal venue capacity for large events make it the go-to for couples who want a full-service, large-guest-count wedding in Banff. The hotel handles catering, accommodation, and ceremony space. For wedding photography, the hotel grounds, the Bow River bridge below the property, and the surrounding forest all offer strong portrait locations within walking distance of the reception space. The hotel is also a commercially active shooting location with its own photography policies.

Rimrock Resort Hotel

The Rimrock, on Sulphur Mountain above the town, has mountain views in all directions and a slightly more intimate scale than the Banff Springs. The hotel's terrace and interior venues work for medium-sized events. The elevation gives the ceremony space a quality of remoteness that the valley-floor venues do not have.

Buffalo Mountain Lodge

Buffalo Mountain Lodge is a smaller, cabin-style property on the wooded slope above Banff town. For couples who want a more intimate, less grand-hotel wedding, the lodge offers a cabin aesthetic with indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces. The surrounding forest gives portrait opportunities that are different from the open valley and lake environments of the major tourist sites.

Outdoor Ceremony Sites

For couples who want the landscape itself as the venue, the outdoor ceremony site options within the national park include the Vermilion Lakes area, Johnston Canyon, and various shoreline locations at Lake Louise subject to permit availability. These are not venues with catering or accommodation infrastructure. They are permit-accessed ceremony locations followed by a separate reception venue. Many couples hold the outdoor ceremony at a Parks Canada site and the reception at one of the hotel properties.
