The question of when to elope in Dubai has a single clear answer: between November and March. This is the period when temperatures are in the 20 to 30 degree Celsius range, outdoor photography is comfortable for extended sessions, and the desert becomes accessible for evening ceremonies. Everything else is a compromise with the heat, and the heat in Dubai from May through September is not a minor inconvenience: it is a genuine physical barrier to outdoor photography at any time except the very early morning.
November and December: The Arrival of the Good Season
November marks the shift from the brutal summer heat to something manageable. By mid-November, evening desert sessions are comfortable, the light is turning from the bleached-out quality of summer to the warmer, lower-angle quality that photographs well. December is one of the most popular months for Dubai weddings for a reason: the daytime highs are in the mid-20s Celsius, the nights are warm but not cold, and the long evenings give extended golden hour windows before the sun sets around 5:30pm. The main downside of December is that it is also the highest demand period for Dubai hotels and events, which affects both availability and pricing.
January Through March: The Photographic Peak
January through March is, in my experience, the best photographic window in Dubai. The temperatures are at their lowest (January averages 19 to 24 degrees Celsius), the light has the quality of a temperate winter rather than a tropical one, and the sky often has more character than the flat blue of peak summer. The desert in January and February has a specific quality: cool mornings, warm afternoons, and golden hour light that arrives around 6pm and has a depth of color I associate with the best desert photography I have ever done.
February is my personal recommendation for couples who have complete flexibility. The light, the temperature, the desert conditions, and the relatively lower pricing of late January and February (before the spring break surge in March) all align in this month. If I were eloping in Dubai, I would choose the second or third week of February without question.
Summer: What Is Actually Possible
From May through September, outdoor photography in Dubai during any part of the day except the early morning hour around dawn is genuinely uncomfortable and often not viable for couples in formal attire. If a couple has no flexibility on dates and must photograph in summer, I shift everything: desert sessions move to 5am to 7am to capture the cooler pre-sun conditions, and the remainder of the session moves indoors to air-conditioned hotel spaces, interior courtyards, and the covered sections of heritage sites. Summer Dubai can still produce beautiful photography. It requires a fundamentally different plan.
